Artists That Are Worth Their Salt
While writing my last post, I came across the following quote in the Huffington Post.
If the artist is worth his or her salt, then chances he or she has probably done something outre or controversial.
This is insanity at its finest. To be worth your salt as an artist, you must do something controversial? Let me put forward some names for consideration:
- Dick van Dyke
- Mozart
- Walt Disney
- Bertel Thorvaldsen
- Shel Silverstein
- Chris LeDoux
There are plenty of others that could be included, but that pretty much runs the gambit from music to poetry to sculpture.
So tell me. When did controversy equate to greatness? When did our society reduce itself to that?
